Big South Fork Airpark 2024: A Year in Review

As the year comes to a close, we look back on a busy and exciting 2024 here at Big South Fork Airpark. From new developments to unforgettable events, the Airpark continues to grow as a vibrant community for aviation enthusiasts and their families. Let’s take a moment to highlight some of the year’s milestones.

1. Building Dreams: Custom Homes

Construction has been in full swing this year, with several stunning custom homes taking shape. Each home reflects the unique vision of its owners while blending seamlessly with the natural beauty of our Airpark. It’s always exciting to see dreams realized, and 2024 has been no exception.

2. Expanding Horizons: Hangar Development

The development of custom hangars and private T hangars continues to be a cornerstone of Big South Fork Airpark. Phase B of our hangar development saw significant progress, with 50×40 hangars featuring full insulation, utilities on-site, and high-power doors becoming a reality. These state-of-the-art facilities provide the perfect home for aircraft and ensure that our aviators have the infrastructure they need.

3. The Launch of Phase 4

This year marked the highly anticipated release of Phase 4, which included additional homesites. Already 7 of these estate-sized lots were placed under contract or sold, underscoring the continued demand for properties in our thriving community. With only 12 homesites remaining in the development, the Airpark is closer than ever to completion. Don’t miss your chance to secure your piece of this aviation paradise!

4. Events That Bring Us Together

At Big South Fork Airpark, community is everything. Our events throughout the year have been a testament to the camaraderie and shared passion that define our Airpark family:

  • Annual Chili Cookoff + Fly-In: Andrew Moran took 1st place again for his chili in our annual competition that was the start to our fun event season!
  • Oyster Roast + Fly-In: Our 9th annual event featured fresh Virginia oysters (thanks to Rex from The Shrimp Dock in Knoxville) and plenty of good times with friends old and new.
  • Independence Day Celebration: From an ATV ride to the river basin to a mouthwatering smoked pig by Whole Hog BBQ, followed by an incredible fireworks display, this celebration was unforgettable.
  • Airshows: Big South Fork Airpark was well represented around the country at Sun ‘n Fun in Lakeland, FL and AirVenture Oshkosh WI, sharing our unique community with the wider aviation world.
  • Cirrus Aircraft Formation Flying Clinic: The 6th clinic hosted with KSCX (Scott Co., TN) was a highlight, with perfect weather and impressive teamwork from participants and organizers.
  • Lowcountry Boil + Fly-In: Over 100 property owners and guests gathered to enjoy fresh seafood, live jazz from JR & Friends, and even crawfish & crab cornbread, courtesy of Scott Hallock. Despite a little rain, the event was a resounding success.
  • Pumpkin Shootout: Thanks to Ann Atanasio and Wells Huskey, this event combined fun with important firearm safety training.
Looking Ahead

As we gear up for 2025, we’re excited to see what the future holds for Big South Fork Airpark. Whether you’re considering joining our community or are already a proud property owner, there’s never been a better time to be a part of the Airpark family.
